How to block spam calls on iPhone
Block a specific caller, review the right settings for your iOS version and avoid losing important calls.
Before you block
If you may need to report a call, note its time and number first. Blocking helps you manage interruptions; it does not investigate the caller or report a crime. A caller using a different or spoofed number may still get through.
Open your call history and check the entry carefully. If a number looks like a genuine organisation’s number, remember that it could have been spoofed. Blocking it may also block legitimate future calls from that number.
Block a particular number
Apple’s current instructions say to open Phone, choose Recents and open the number or contact. In Classic view, use the information button. Scroll down and choose Block Caller. The exact presentation depends on your installed iOS version and Phone layout.
In iOS 26, blocked contacts can also be managed under Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Blocked Contacts. Use Apple’s linked instructions if your version differs. Review the entry before confirming a block.
Know what blocking changes
Apple notes that blocked callers may still leave voicemail, without a notification. Blocking does not prove that a number is fraudulent and does not guarantee that every related contact attempt will stop.
If you are considering a broader unknown-caller filter, first think about calls you expect from clinics, schools, couriers or people whose numbers you have not saved. Check the feature’s description on your phone and decide how you will review silenced calls and voicemail.
Check the result
After changing settings, make sure you know where blocked contacts and call history are located. If a wanted caller is affected, remove the relevant block. Do not assume every missed call after a settings change is unwanted.
Add another layer
Use independent caller checks, keep your device updated and avoid sharing verification codes during unexpected calls. You can add a useful community report without publishing your own number or private details. Our future iPhone app is not available yet; these steps use your phone’s existing capabilities.
